The Bakery
Set in the heart of the rolling Cheshire countryside, tucked away in a converted barn on a traditional dairy farm, is the Speckled Hen® Country Bakery. Named after a much loved collection of rare breed hens, (many of whom are indeed speckled!), the bakery has developed and grown in response to a demand for quality baked goods, that have the real taste of home cooking.
Too many of the vast range of cakes and biscuits available in our shops today, contain an ever increasing list of added ingredients, many of which are unnecessary and a cheap alternative to using the real thing. So we have adopted a real back to basics approach, sourcing ingredients of the highest quality and which have most importantly undergone minimal processing - unrefined sugars, untreated flours, free range eggs for example. We also refrain from using artificial additives, preservatives, flavourings and colourings. So if you buy our Irish Cream fudge, you will see it contains only real whiskey, not a cheap substitute and we think you will taste the difference this makes!!
To ensure quality is maintained at every stage, all of our products are handmade. They are prepared and baked in a traditional way, by dedicated staff who are equally passionate about what we are trying to achieve. Everyone is involved in product development and all their opinions valued!
